Check out the City!

Today is our last morning in our temporary living arrangement - we officially move to our rental house today. We have been going to KMart and the Big W daily to get things for the house and our furniture was delivered on Thursday so it is starting to feel more like home. As of right now we have internet set to be installed on July 11th and cable TV on July 25th - things take A LONG time here compared to the US! We have been visiting the McDonald's near our house periodically where we can get free wireless and check our email. Bryan will head to work on Monday morning but I will have to visit McDonald's daily with Bryan's computer in order to check my email! We have had a fun time trying to navigate the city, learn driving rules, and see some sights but are ready to get settled for awhile.

AUSTRALIAN EDUCATION: When referring to the TRUNK of the car - you call it the BOOT.

More about TROLLEYS . . . the wheels on the trolleys here don't just have front steering wheels - the rear wheels steer as well. This makes for quite an interesting workout at you attempt to steer a cart!

FUNNY STORY: We keep seeing people with NEBRASKA sweatshirts on and so while at McDonald's Bryan decided to ask someone where they got it. He got his at KMart and then proceeded to ask Bryan if it was a place in London! The poor soul was very misguided and didn't realize he was supporting the greatest college football team in the US!!

Evan's Travel Pictures

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Greetings from AUS!!

We arrived safe and sound in Brisbane on Sunday morning, June 24th around 8AM (a couple hours later than scheduled.) Evan had a really good trip considering it took about 30+ hours from door to door! We have now spent the past couple of days trying to get everything set-up so that we can move into our rental house later this week. Our furniture will be delivered on Thursday and we're hoping our air shipment will arrive Friday or Monday and then we will "officially" be moved into our new home! We may not have internet access at our home for another 2-3 weeks though so we'll keep you posted. I am going to try to upload some travel pictures here tonight for this post . . . hopefully I'll be successful!

It has been quite an experience having Bryan drive us around the area (with me sitting in the passenger seat on the left side of the car!) He told me I would start laughing the minute I got in the car - and he was right! All of the Aussies have also been complaining about the "cold" weather we are experiencing (they are wearing coats and scarves.) It has been raining since we got here but other than the rain the weather has been around 65-70 degrees - and we've been fine wearing shorts and short-sleeves!

Australian education for the day: We asked where we could find a CART (shopping cart) when first visiting the Big W (Walmart) and the girl had no idea what we were talking about. We started playing charades and learned that they are called TROLLEYS in Australia.

Counting Down the Days

Our plane tickets have been booked, our house is packed (almost) and our pantry is empty. We will be departing Moline on June 22nd (Bryan's birthday) - destination Australia. We will arrive in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on June 24th to start our 12-18 month adventure. We'll keep you posted as everything unfolds!
